I recently got recommended Phoenix Wallet.

Please tell me I'm overlooking something. The complete lack of control over lightning/onchain is baffling. And expensive, it can become accidentally expensive. Can I open channels to people I know somehow?

phoenix is all about operating a single, well-connected channel. from this you can send and receive both lightning and on-chain (via splicing).

i think that out of all non-custodial lightning wallets, phoenix is probably the most user friendly. but due to this automation i suppose it is also more expensive to operate compared to an advanced wallet like zeus or blixt where the user really knows what they are doing. not sure what you mean by "accidentally expensive".

fwiw i am a happy phoenix user, it just works.

I understand the simplicity of a single channel.

Buuut a single channel is a dead end. You need at least 2 channels for sats to have the ability to be moving at all. Otherwise someone is investing in my channel with no return. It's wasted and locked up money.

not sure i follow. the channel you own is private, i.e. not for routing. so you use it for spending and receiving, not for earning routing fees. phoenix take a small cut each time you make a transaction for providing the service, which is how they make a profit.

I concur. Use Phoenix a lot. It's very simple LN with a focus on ease of use.

accidentally expensive

Because you have only the one channel with acinq's node, if you receive more than your inbound, it will automatically splice for you (even if on chain fees are high). If you aren't paying attention a small LN receive can cause an on chain txn. They have a setting for limiting how much you are willing to pay in fees, but it can be a footgun if you aren't careful.

Also, because they allow you to send out to on chain from your LN channel (via splicing) you might wreck your inbound if you don't understand LN liquidity.

I've seen people pay for inbound liquidity, receive maybe half, and then send out to on chain not understanding that the splice will resize their channel and decrease their inbound. They could explain it better in the app.

Overall though, its a good wallet that rarely has issues with failed payments. Highly recommend.

unless i'm mistaken, phoenix also alerts the user if their invoice exceeds inbound capacity and that it will trigger an on-chain fee. seems reasonable and am not sure what else they could really do to prevent users from incurring accidental costs.

agreed about sending on-chain wrecking inbound liquidity though. it's happened to me...!

Foundling Hospitals

All State maternity hospitals are actually “foundling hospitals”. Foundling is a place where abandoned goods are shipped to be discarded, at which time someone else can take ownership.

This means the parents, primarily the mother, are tricked into abandoning their newly born child.

So, this is done when you have just been “berthed” and taken by the doctor, who then lifts the baby or offspring up from the “mothers water” so that the baby does not touch land, thereby placing the newly born baby under the jurisdiction of maritime law.

This “lifting of the baby” is done immediately after birth, requiring the abrupt cutting of the umbilical cord, which results in trauma being unnecessarily applied to the new born baby, or offspring.

The umbilical cord should never be cut, but left attached to the new born baby and will separate naturally when the time comes.

Note: The word “offspring” is based on the Latin word “prolificus”, meaning to be “prolific”, or to make “offspring” which comes from Middle English “of-spring”.

The origin of a river, which reaches the sea, is a spring; you “spring” from your mother’s water.

Once this action has been carried out by the doctor, the baby has now become “abandoned goods”, which breaks the bond between mother and child.

This is all carried out on a hospital “ward”; ward is a prison term.

Note: Prisoners are securitized commodities, with their prison paperwork being monetized, generating millions for the private prison corporation. Children are treated the same from birth.

Your train of thought is both ridiculous and dangerous. Got news for you, the umbilical cord is attached to the placenta which is no longer required to feed the baby nutrients and oxygen post-partum - this is where breast milk and breathing air takes over. There is some debate on when to clamp the cord prior to cutting, but there is no debate about cutting the cord, which has been done for millennia. Umbilical cords can strangle the baby, get infected, and cause other health concerns that REQUIRE it to be severed shortly after birth.

Furthermore, "offspring" comes from Old English. Not Latin.

"Ward" also comes from Old English "weard" meaning guard. It has evolved to mean guard, position, and direction. Ward is no more a "prison" term, than award, forward, inward, wayward, or outward. But your post is most definitely backward.

This is a masterpiece and every mother must learn about it in time. Between 1 to 3 weeks the cord will become dry and will naturally fall off, this is the reality which is kept hidden from all of us.

I think I might be a truly chillax parent. As I held my son’s hand and we meandered through the throngs of parents and their offspring (who, by the way, seemed to be hunching under bags disproportionally bigger than themselves) packed together before their evil masters in the form of tuition agencies, I felt zero stabbing of FOMO. Dropped him off at the indoor playground with nary a trance of parental guilt.

I mean, I’m perfectly content that he knows how to spell “pizza” and “狗” and type his name in hiragana when finding his favourite videos on YouTube. I don’t need him to be optimising his intellectual capacity right now. I will have plenty of me time when I throw him to the sharp shark jaws of enrichment classes in the future.
