Your broader point I sympathize with. Bitcoin has value because people want it.

Are you sure? I seen respected bitcoin people meltdown over this OP_Return deal? You still got the CTV folks wanting their OP code turned on in the code base.
I think many land mines are afoot and it will only get worse as more fiat comes into the network

Bitcoin didn’t solve the governance and human cooperation problem. Unfortunately that will always exist
