Another month passes and another month where tariffs have NOT destroyed America and inflation continues to fall. Yes some segments within are out but once again looking at the picture as a whole it once again continues to fall.
Casual reminder that inflation falling doesn’t mean prices are falling

They made a point to note the price of eggs did in fact fall!!!
It was noted that apparel inflation went negative so the prices fell which is surprising given the importation factor
reply
Important note. The price of eggs went up because the government forced ranchers to kill a massive number of their flocks. I suspect that under a critical eye we would find that this was largely an over-reaction. Many such cases...

The price of beef definitely went up in the past couple months. Big bummer since I eat a LOT of beef.

There’s a big disruption right now that’s shut down imports from Mexico.
reply
Oh, is that what's causing the rise in prices for beef?
reply
Not sure, but it can’t be helping.
It’s related to a parasite, so it may also be leading to more biosecurity measures in American producers.
It is very nice when prices actually do come down.
reply
They don't. That's deflation
reply
Every so often particular prices do.
reply
But that's not what government inflation readings measure... they measure prices across the economy ie a wide range of consumer goods.
That’s why I’d rather save in sats. Fiat loses purchasing power slowly or quickly — but always down only. 📉

MSM narrative is dead, or should be dead.

It’s on life support that’s for sure. They still will swear up and down that what Trump has done will destroy the world but that’s just not honest 🤷🏼‍♂️

No doubt the media embraced the tariffs = inflation mantra to attack Trump. Putting politics aside, though, podcasters like Jeff Snider have consistently argued that tariffs don't cause inflation. I don't know enough about economics to take sides on this discussion.

I've heard Bob Murphy try to explain this position (no his). The TLDR is that tariffs do not always in all situations cause price inflation that is equal for all people...
Basically if a market is large enough in comparison and companies have more incentive to eat the tariffs than pass it along then prices may not be effected. Tariffs can pretty easily be defended as good for some individuals in an economy. That makes them great for politicians.
My bigger beef is this false idea that "trade deficits" are inherently bad. Its just incredibly dumb. Now, it can also be dumb for a geographical area to be completely at the whims of another one but that is nailing down specifics. Not a generalization.
