Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and Sen. John Hoffman live about eight miles apart from each other and were shot late Friday evening in their homes. The reports say that the person impersonated a police officer to have them open their doors before shooting them. It has not been made clear what their condition is but this has no place in the US.

We hold elections and if you do not like the people in office then you go out and you pound the pavement to vote someone else in. Resorting to this is deeply troubling.

In DC in 2023 we had a couple of Members get attacked. One was carjacked right by my apartment actually and the other was attacked by a homeless guy in an elevator in her apartment building. Staffer have also been attacked both for their job and in random acts of violence. Last year though the District made significant advancements. One of the biggest things was under 18 kids face curfews or they get arrested and that dropped crime considerably.

Since Trump has been back in office the number and scale of patrolling has dramatically increased as well. Where it used to be that the USCP (United States Capitol Police) only operated on Capitol Hill they now are throughout the district and visible in areas were staffers and Members live and where other Federal employees work.

Whoever this person was I hope they absolutely light him up because this is unacceptable. This is wrong and vile. This is not what America stands for.
