I found a great list of questions from here, and this was one of them.
I'm pretty good at not mindlessly collecting, wanting to be able to live out of a box and be happy, preferring the form and function of things that have obvious, general, immediate, and non-redundant purpose. But, I still do it some.
Clothes are probably my most regrettable category of collected things. My weight yoyos a lot, so 20% of my life's time I have a stash of clothes that are too big, and 80% of the time I keep an aspirational stash of clothes that are too small. Then, I also find myself buying replacements for clothes that are nearly worn through but not quite, and I keep those near obsolescent clothes around just in case. Some items I keep wondering if they've only briefly gone out of fashion. Oh, and I'm the worst with jackets, buying them hoping they're The One, only to wear a damn hoodie regardless of the weather.
Old electronics are another category - maybe that old laptop has something on the harddrive I'll regret deleting.
Books are one I don't regret. I've gotten in the habit of buying anything that I'd like to read should I have the time to read. I usually discard things I've already read, giving them away to friends or donating them, but I don't mind keeping things I'd like to read. I view my bookshelf as an index of rabbit holes I might want to visit.
Lately I've also been semi-mindlessly collecting bitcoin swag, stickers, and posters, and repurposed bitcoin things.
What do you mindlessly collect?

I used to hoard a lot, from electronics (at some point i could've outfitted a small datacenter) to tshirts and books. And local edition of playboy! But i left my country and rented out my apartment which prompted a disposal and evaluation of my attachment to things.
I donated 75% of my books to my friends, kept 50 tshirts, and got rid of most of electronics besides the things i use on weekly basis (which still amounts to a lot😅). I kept the playboys - historical value, specially since even the publishing company doesnt exist, at some point a friend borrowed one for the production of a popular local tv show since they couldnt get a particular issue anywhere else 🤣
I miss my books.

Baseball caps. I have hats from the home team of every ballpark I have been to except the New York Yankees because I hate them. But I did enjoy going to both old and new Yankee stadium.

I followed a similar pattern when I was younger. I still have them, though I don’t remember how many exactly. Maybe just like 7 or 8

I didn't buy a Yankees hat and lost a Pittsburgh Pirates hat. I bought a replacement Pirates hat but I couldn't find the exact one I got at the game which apparently was that years Spring Training hat so I am not that rigid about this collection but it is fun.

Receipts. I tell myself that I should just process them and be done with it. But I procrastinate. So I have 4 years worth pending admin. Ugh!

Houseplants. I keep propagating the ones I have...don't even need more.
Books used to be an issue, but last time we moved I couldn't bring them, and I haven't bought too many books since.

Paper statements I get in the mail. I opt for electronic delivery as much as I can, but some things don’t seem to offer it. Stick it in the applicable folder in the filing cabinet, just in case.
And I guess similarly, emails. File them away, in case I ever need them.

I have an ever expanding list of movies and TV shows that I will never watch. I used to have a nice collection of Bitcoin stickers, but I stuck them to my refrigerator at my last apartment.

My skinny clothes taunt me so badly. I've been on the bulk/cut cycle for 5 years, but it's mostly just an excuse to eat too much. I'm going to try to keep the weight off this time, but my relationship with food is absolutely fucked. I've always had issues with that.
I'd say stacking sats has stopped me from mindlessly collecting things recently, but I always find room in the budget for audio books.
