I get the Dodgers are in a pickle right now when it comes to starters and pitchers overall but it was only a couple of weeks ago it was going to be after the All Star Break or even August. These sim games he has thrown against low level minor leaguers aren’t even close to being the talent he will face. God forbid he gets hurt but this is setting him up and not in a great way.

He has been off for over a year and a half. I get he has been hitting so that might slow the healing process to get back to pitching but this is a long time for TJ surgery. They said before the season started that they were projecting some time in May for his return. We are mid June so I think they have been really cautious with him. The one drawback is he hasn't really had a chance to go on a rehab stint to pitch in live games in the minors because he is playing every day as DH in the majors. So we will see how it goes. I think they will keep him limited to 3 or 4 innings.

What I don’t understand is he is serving as an opener and only going one inning unless it’s super quick… so what he’s on a 20-25 pitch count I mean…. Not super helpful and I don’t see how it helps build him out

Ok so they just want to get him some MLB reps and stretch him out that way.

Yeah, they will have him pitch 3-4 innings and bring in Kiké in relief.
