“We’re building God… but like, softly regulated.”
Big tech CEOs can’t even agree what AGI is, but they’re racing to build it with trillions on the line. FT dropped a spicy stat AGI mentions in Q1 earnings calls are up 53%, even while regulators and execs throw shade:
  • Altman: “we love our current products, but we are here for the glorious future.”
  • Elon: “I warned you in 2015.”
  • EU: “umm, what is AGI again?”
Nobody knows, but everyone’s betting billions.
“It’s a religion for some, a marketing term for others.”
How long until someone tries to IPO the Singularity?
We're still about 20 years out from the Singularity, at least as Kurzweil predicted it.
I think we're right on time for a pre-Singularity hype bubble, though.

I think the hype level is approaching a singularity..... not so sure about the AI itself

We're just getting started on the hype train. Where's the AI equivalent of doorknobs.com?

It all starts to smell like a bubble full of promises and promises. AGI is very different from LLMs. And all they seem to do is to keep improving LLMs a bit each time. I don't think that's the path to AGI. Yet they convince investors to put billions into this.

I was told AI has a data problem not a compute problem (TechLead from YouTube) I can’t wait for AGI! Maybe dealing with the IRS Won’t be so painful

DeepMind’s definition — being as capable as a “skilled adult at most cognitive tasks” — makes this “fairly obvious”, Legg adds. “Ask yourself if some task is a cognitive thing that people can typically do. If it is, then the AI must be able to do it to be an AGI.”
