Tourism operators expect many cannabis stores across Thailand to be shuttered, especially in urban areas, leaving only those that supply the herb for medical purposes, as the government moves to recriminalise the plant.
The Ministry of Public Health issued an order late on Tuesday prohibiting the sale of cannabis for recreational use and making it mandatory for any retail purchase to require a doctor’s prescription.
Thailand has always been a great tourism destination for Indians. Free use of Cannabis is one of the reasons people always mentioned coming back from there. I don't think this new rule should endanger the tourism industry of Thailand but it's also reality that Cannabis is a big part of their economy.
This seems ridiculous to me. Even if they want to treat it like other medical products, a large portion of American tourism to Thailand is medical in nature.
That’s because their medical costs are so much lower and, I thought, treatments were easier to obtain. They should be leaning into affordability and availability, rather than erecting barriers.

I agre. People from India go to enjoy there. They say it's more affordable than going to Goa, which is in India. I think they will drop it once they see even a slight impact on their tourism.
