When people move to a new place, they typically bring their car, clothes, personal belongings, family, and pets with them. But in almost all cases, they leave their home.
Why don't we all have nice homes that can be packaged up onto a 40 foot trailer in a couple of days and shipped to our new destination?
Surely there is sentimental value in keeping one's home (even if it's in a new location), and an expandable or modular frame would make it easier to grow or shrink one's home instead of constantly replacing it as one goes through the various phases of life.
Location matters a lot here as well

What do you mean by this?

A home that is constructed in Alaska might not be suitable for Florida. So the nice home that you may want to bring with you might not be sufficient for the new location.

That's fair

For modular houses it might work, but for most homes it would be hard, expensive, and often simply impossible. Also, people don’t always move just to change location – they often move because they want a different home altogether.

Do they want a different home? I wouldn’t be surprised if many actually just wanted a bigger home as they grow their family and a smaller home as their kids leave.

Why hasn't that concept of portable, modular designs been applied to big houses too?
