Howdy Stackers!
Mine was almost as usual. I was as lazy as I had been in last 2 years. If anything that had been different, I woke up very early all the weekend and enjoyed the early morning showers with a cup of coffee. I had plans of visiting the river nearby if it were dry but havens opened up a bit more and early to ruin everything. Slightly disappointed but watched a whole season of Criminal Justice (Hindi Suspense Drama) and some sports including Tennis to compensate the riverside picnic.
How was yours? What did you do?

I want to get my house to market in the next 2-3 weeks, so my weekends are busy. I removed a lot of wall paper ans started pulling things off of the walls that are going to be painted. Beyond that, it's a bunch of odds and ends. It never feels like I'm getting closer to being finished.
I seriously can't wait to get rid of this house.

Selling a house is nowhere easier. It sucks! I've also heard that the seller needs to pay 6% to the broker. Is this correct?!

I think like 5.5 these days, plus closing costs etc. It's a significant amount.

Yupp. Comparing to India, it's at least 3-5% more. Most properties here sell with a brokerage of .5 to 1% and some with 1-2%. And comparing the price, properties in Indian cities are not cheaper than the properties in the US.

Real estate agents in the US had a standard ~6% commission, paid by the seller and split between seller's and buyer's agents, but a 2023 Supreme Court decision found this was pretty much price-fixing and so there is supposed to be a a wider variety of services and rates offered by real estate agents now. I don't think it's really happening though.
Also: I hate removing wall paper.

I got a lot of yardwork done, although there's still more for today. That included planting some tomato and pepper plants that I got on sale.

I forgot to mention I also did some yard work. I sprayed some incecticides in the backyard because I saw a big Snake travelling from there. Because of Monsoon and consistent rain the grass grew really very fast and while we don't go in the backyard in rains.. I thought it better to spray out many many weed plants. I don't know how but this year we have like plants of weed everywhere around us.
BTW, you guys don't sow seeds? Most of the times I've seen US people planting which we don't do for vegetable stuff like peppers and tomatoes.
reply
I usually grow from seeds, but I saw some plants on sale that already had some fruit so I grabbed him and planted them.
I wasn't going to do tomatoes this year, because the past two years were very disappointing and I was trying to grow peppers from the seeds of peppers we had used for cooking but none of them seem to have sprouted.
reply
Ahh, Well you need to upskill your agri skills! Seeds of pepper used for cooking are generally crushed and don't sprout, so it's better you get the seeds specific for growing. For tomatoes you can just cut a good quality completely ripen tomato in very small pieces and put them in lose soil with a little natural fertilizer, they'll sprout very fast and give you a good crop. Remember you also gotta save tomatoes and peppers from cold.

Did some work for my contract job. Had a family bbq on Saturday evening at my parent’s house and played some baseball with the kids yesterday.

Great! TBH I've never attended a BBQ. It's just not a thing here. If it has to do with a family get together and cooking, we do it daily. But yeah, with friends or relatives we have had a lot, especially for the rajasthani food — Dal Bati and Choorma!!
