Simply incredible how hostile South Korean culture is towards children. Moms are called parasites & children seen as pests according to Korean reporter interviewed in Gideon Lewis-Kraus’s excellent article on the demographic crisis in the New Yorker.

With such a cultural mindset it is honestly not at all surprising that TFR was just 0.75 in 2024. In fact, it makes the rise in TFR this year all the more remarkable. Other countries with very low TFR (Thailand, Poland, Chile etc) do not have an anti natalist culture at all.
