I bought one of these, so AMA 😀
There are many plugins already, it's easy to add your own plugins (essentially HTML+JS) and you can self host your own server.
Do you find this similar to a reMarkable?
reply
No, this is very different. This is not a tablet or reader...

Looks pretty! What do you plan to use it for?

I want calendar events, weather and maybe something bitcoin, but I don't care about seeing the price that often, so I don't know 🙂

Re: something bitcoin. I kinda like the viz stuff from https://timechaincalendar.com/en

They have this plugin for bitcoin, but that's not useful for me https://usetrmnl.com/integrations/bitcoin-wallet-balance

Have you tried or did you consider similar products? What made you pick this one?

I was trying to look for something, but I didn't find any other eink home display like this. Other options are LCD, have to be connected and are more expensive.

Oh, I didn't realize it was so affordable (relatively) or that it's offline/selfhosted-first.
I was going to ask if you looked at Daylight Computer. Founder is a bitcoiner and it went a little viral among bitcoiners about a year ago.

Nice! These look like fantastic little devices for anyone who loves to tinker. The fact that plugins are basically just HTML+JS and that you can self-host your own server are definitely the killer features.
Since you're offering an AMA, I'll bite: Beyond the standard clock and weather plugins, what's the first truly useful or just plain cool custom display you've set up?
I'm always curious how people use these for local information. It would be pretty cool to have one here in Addis displaying the real-time ETB exchange rate or maybe the schedule for the next coffee delivery. 😉 Enjoy the new gadget!

Whoa awesome. How does it serve the apps? It had its own compute on board or it has to connect to a server?
reply
No, it has to connect to a server. The server essentially just serves a picture of what to render. The display itself is quite stupid, but it has a WiFi at least 🙂
