If you had to write another book, what would it be about?

I have a very rough draft in my head. It's about energy but not merely scientific; I'd write about how energy can be perceived in many different ways. For example, language or "words as watts" or "karma as a ledger." Granted, it's more esoteric, but the intended audience would be more normies from different walks of life.

Honestly, I was four years into the Air Force. My thought was "either do 4 or 20 (retirement)." I had a feeling my skillset suited being a teacher. The overriding thought was that I wasn't pleased with public education, and I could either talk shit about it or do something. Man in the arena, so to speak...

If fiat is gold's legacy due to it being imperfect money, what will Bitcoin's legacy be?

If fiat is gold's legacy, LN and other layered solutions (which embody Bitcoin's properties) will be Bitcoin's legacy.
Not a super sexy answer, but...

That's a fair take, though I would nit that LN is Bitcoin, but everything else being fake layers are fiat analogous. These fake layer 2s will be Bitcoin's legacy if they aren't smothered in the cradle culturally.
I find it interesting that gold's relevance is almost purely cultural

Agreed, but I'd say the relevance of gold is more historical than cultural; humanity was trying to express the properties Bitcoin embodies (i.e., scarcity, immutability, etc) with the tools and resources they had at their time in history; they were doing the best they could with what they had.

How does your work at IBC (ibcprotocol.dev?) relate to the themes explored in your book?

Great question. History is created by individuals first and foremost. Individual action leads to growth and change. I believe that Bitcoin allows for a greater expression of "think globally, act locally."
We at the IBC (illinoisbitcoincouncil.org) are focused on three pillars - education, advocacy, and collaboration). We're in the process of partnering with an inner-city alternative school serving underprivledged students by sharing a financial literacy & Bitcoin education curriculum (h/t - Mi Primer Bitcoin). We're meeting with state legislators sharing the lessons we've learned about the benefits of Bitcoin. We're also collaborating with Illinois retailers and merchants to bring Lightning Network solutions to them.
To answer your question, we're helping further the proliferation of Bitcoin's protocls with each of our pillars. Spreading the good word, so to speak.

In the spirit of X, I'd also consider making Nostr the "everything" app. Services anymore are just a software solution away. Build all the perks of the other apps you like into Nostr, and they will come...

Your book covers several properties of bitcoin.
Which property do you think is most important?
If you had to remove one property from bitcoin which would you remove?

That's a tough one. I'll skirt answering your question by saying no one property is the most important; it's the interconnection of all properties that is the special sauce so to speak. Scarcity doesn't mean as much without decentralization or immutability for example.

Tbh, decentralization is what really brought me to Bitcoin.

Great question! I hope people will zoom out and see that Bitcoin's properties have been sought after by society throughout history and that Bitcoin is a logical progresion of society to incorporate all those properties into one protocol.

In the book, I give multiple episodes, or vignettes, throughout history showing how each individual property has been yearned or fought over. After doing this for each property, Bitcoin's fit in history's bigger picture becomes more apparent. While I do describe some of Bitcoin's technicals, it's more about "why" the properties are valuable in and of themselves as opposed to the "how".

Do you think that pushing large boulders up to a high hill like the neolithic tribes who made stonehenge is the equivalent of converting energy into currency and status, considering what we know about the closest equivalent in cultural memory, the yap stones of Rei? And if so, is Bitcoin the new highest hill, like the ones temples were built on that were used to converge on a place on specific dates in order to come to consensus beyond the limits of the dunbar number?
