Questions for the new stackers:
- How did you find out about SN?
- How difficult was it to get started? Any feedback?
- How much experience do you have with lightning?
- Have you read the FAQ already?
- Have you realized that you need to attach a wallet to receive sats?
- Do you understand the difference between cowboy credits (CCs) and sats?
- How were your first weeks on SN?
All new stackers:
sat standard = ratio of received sats vs credits (sats/(sats+credits))
1. How did you find out about SN?
From @PictureRoom – thanks dude!
2. How difficult was it to get started? Any feedback?
Easier than I was expecting actually.
3. How much experience do you have with lightning?
Some, simply from using Strike and Coinos. But I'm still learning.
4. Have you read the FAQ already?
Probably not all the way through but I refer to it when necessary.
5. Have you realized that you need to attach a wallet to receive sats?
I did have some wallet confusion. I wondered why I was only receiving CCs but I realized I hadn't fully connected with Coinos. All was well in the end.
6. Do you understand the difference between cowboy credits (CCs) and sats?
Not exactly, but that's ok. Not sure what we can do with our balance of CCs though.
7. How were your first weeks on SN?
So far so good, really enjoying my interactions with the community here and the way the platform and rewards system is built – love it!
-Tom
I'm glad that you're here my dude!
Welcome and thanks for answering all these questions!
Makes sense, I mostly just want to make new stackers aware that it exists. Maybe I should rephrase the question since I don't really expect new stackers to read it all lol
You can use it for everything that you can use sats for! We will always try to spend from it first, except for zaps, that's when we try your attached wallets first, because you're paying another stacker with it, not SN. If your or their wallet fails, we also fallback to CCs for zaps.
Does this make sense?
OK so regarding CCs / Sats, you're saying that when we make a new post, or hit reply, those will come out of our CC balance first and foremost? If zaps use sats – which is great – what are the other ways we can spend our CCs?
Incidentally, all our zaps are failing right now (because Coinos is down) so our Notifications show failed zaps, yet it seems CCs weren't pulled instead?
-Tom
Yes, if you can pay the full amount. Can’t do partial payments yet.
Posts and comments are the most obvious payments but there is also voting on polls, boosts, donations or territories
Oh right, we only fallback to CCs if it immediately fails (like the receiver couldn’t generate an invoice or your wallet immediately throws an error). But once a sat payment was pending, it does currently not fallback to CCs anymore (even on retry). That’s a technical limitation we still have in our current design.
You can disable your Coinos wallet, then you will get a QR code when you hit retry and all new zaps will use CCs.
Sorry for this experience, still rough on the edges!
It's all good, and Coinos is back so I'm zapping like crazy now lol.
Wow nice answers
Beginner's luck.
Awesome!
Welcome, Tom!
Already commented on your captions n am looking forward to seeing more of your work
Good job!!
Dunno, been a while. I suspect via reddit's r/bitcoin, or maybe a random podcast.
Easy to get started once I discovered the "skip" button for attaching a wallet.
As for feedback: if there are custodial options (ie. easier to set up and/or use) that do not require a registration, it would be a great place to hint at it on the connect page. Privacy-minded beginners would benefit from it, if such a thing even exists.
A bit. Use it frequently enough (mostly Phoenix) to buy things with it, but don't run a node or anything like that.
Glanced over it.
Yes. But can't be bothered to set up a non-custodial setup yet. And don't want to register with custodial options (like alby) where I'd need to sign up with an email address.
I think I do? So probably not really.
Been lurking for a long time. While I'm not super familiar with everything yet, I do feel the content in general is of considerably higher quality than many other places. Including nostr. (No hate for nostr; I am a fan of the concept even if I'm not a fan of most of the content. Then again, I never liked Twitter/X either.)
Agreed about Nostr. It's only early days here and clearly there's a smaller audience in these parts, but people actually seem to engage with genuine interest on SN and I like the vibe. Sure, there's an incentive to do so here, but so far I find it really hard to make any progress on Nostr – even though I love the concept.

Welcome!
What do you usually buy with Phoneix?
Groceries, household water & electricity, and some of my basic clothing when I'm in South Africa (about 4-5 months per year). All of the above are sold at Pick'n'Pay stores and can be paid for with Lightning.
And with bitrefill: vouchers for gas, restaurants, steam (games), prepaid mobile, and other random things.
Between those two, I can cover a vast chunk of my day-to-day expenses when in South Africa. Sadly there are fewer options in the other regions we spend each year in. For now.
Welcome!
Sounds like you would be interested in Cashu! We don't support it directly yet, but there are Cashu wallets with Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) support like Minibits. I am planning with direct support for it within the next 4-8 weeks.
We also have plans to recommend wallets to beginners, thanks for the feedback that this is indeed the right direction!

How much experience do you have with lightning?
I quiet new, once i know SN then i install blink and setuo the lightning.
Have you read the FAQ already?
Somehow i read if im stuck
Have you realized that you need to attach a wallet to receive sats?
Yeah, but im still confuse on how suddenly i got stack sat lol
Do you understand the difference between cowboy credits (CCs) and sats?
Definitely not yet understand yet, im still exploring
How were your first weeks on SN?
Exploring on what its all about hahaa
Hi 5!
I have a Blink wallet too because it is fuss-free.
If I zap you 100 sats, 70 sats will go to your wallet while the remaining 30 sats goes towards making SN sybil-resistant. Does that make sense? Basically, just be active on this sub and contribute signal. You will get sats in return
Nice.. Thanks

ChatGPT recommended SN for me, i didn't know about lighting tbh but it was fairly easy to use and understand for me, much easier than other forums and the community is very supportive
Quite impressive if SN has made it to the knowledge base of ChatGPT LLM!
Welcome
Thank you and coming from Discord and Reddit, i really like the community
And it's easier than BitcoinTalk which is really hard for me to understand lol
What does the 'sat standard' column mean?
It's the ratio between sats and CCs
Speed wallet app
that's how you found SN?
Thats a crazy BTC cost for renovations But yeah old buildings and strict rules always blow the budget The glass to marble switch sounds brutal
