Thanks to this bottoms-up culture, OpenAI is also very meritocratic. Historically, leaders in the company are promoted primarily based upon their ability to have good ideas and then execute upon them.
Ya saw this quote too def stuck out, looks like they are all running small teams with their own researchers at leads. I do think after reading this if it is true and not made up entirely by ChatGPT, they will be just fine recruiting straight from universities around the world. The writer doesn’t allude to that but it’s completely obvious they must keep expanding and promoting from within.
This quote made me laugh tho…
From start (the first lines of code written) to finish, the whole product was built in just 7 weeks. The Codex sprint was probably the hardest I've worked in nearly a decade. Most nights were up until 11 or midnight…Heading to the office again at 7a. Working most weekends. We all pushed hard as a team, because every week counted.
Really a decade??? He simply wouldn’t be able to handle building on Bitcoin. This is almost every person who has come through PlebLab normal schedule, not all the time but most of the time especially during sprints.

Turnover will stay high this way because you'll need some downtime after and then you need the next adrenaline rush project. So it isn't surprising that people leave when its like that.
The difference with the entrepreneurs at PlebLab is that they own their goals. That means you don't have to search for the next challenge given to you: you'll find your own.
Thinking about it, this is maybe even a bigger contributor to the churn.
