Membership comes from getting really rich by doing awful things, like shorting the GBP and making a billion (back when a billion was a lot.) Allegedly Bessent was part of the leadership of that Soros team.

There is an air about him that is less than likable. I don’t know, but I just can’t bring myself to trusting him with anything.

I don't watch the US news channels except Bloomberg when I'm really bored or when some crisis happens, so I've only seen him "perform" once or twice. I don't get the "trust this guy" vibes off the little I've seen either but I generally don't trust anyone - too often that's been betrayed.
I'm still optimistic though: the path to not depending on the state for your monetary needs is wide open in the US and I hope that we'll see some more satification of daily life, like with steak & shake, while there is an opportunity for critical mass.
Maybe now is a good time to systematically orange pill Uber (Eats)?
