This blog post was just published, but the feature was introduced about a month ago.
Hold invoices are a special type of Lightning invoice where the receiver, instead of immediately locking and settling the HTLC when a payment arrives, only locks the HTLC but deliberately delays settlement (i.e., they withhold the preimage). At this stage, the sender can no longer cancel the payment. The receiver can then perform some action before choosing to either accept the payment, explicitly reject it, or let it expire.
I first heard about hodl invoices in ZEUS Pay. Never thought I’d be messing around with them but here we are. Shoutout Alby for making it easier to play with our bitcoin. 🐝
Will you be checking it out? If so, what will you be creating?

Practically speaking, hold invoices were used in ZeusPay to be able to receive payments while the node/app was offline right?
What would a typical use case be for an alby Hub setup?

Yup.

There are some examples in the blog post. One I’ve seen on Nostr is betting.
