I was at an event last week and talked to lots of people. There definitely a lot of younger people that feel very pessimistic about ever owning a home, and many also don't want to have kids without a home.
This is something I don’t really understand. Why would anyone need to own a property, a house, whatever, to settle down?
Feeling of insecurity? Harder to have kids in a 1 bedroom apartment.
In (western) Europe renting residential properties is quite common, relatively wildly available, and is considered a relatively secure form of housing. This sounds like an excuse to me.
especially if you are an undocumented migrant who gets everything paid for by the state

An excuse for what? Western Europe is probably the best place in the world to be a renter, certainly renters in Australia for example, live a much less predictable home life.
