That is probably why the billionaire owners want the public to pay their freight on the arenas and stadia. The costs are sky high and they are perhaps too eager to get a few more seats to sell. The economics of the situation just sucks, though.

A Thunderously Bad Deal: Oklahoma City’s Crony Arena Tax

Team seemed to do just fine in the existing arena. The fact that teams feel they need new arenas after 20 years is very fiat. Arenas should last at least 50 years. 

Here’s a fun fact for you. In 1999 it cost 270M to build the Scotiabank Arena where the Leafs and Raptors play. In 2023 it cost 350M to renovate the concourses and restaurants. That’s fiat for you.
