I’m currently sitting at a life drawing in Geelong at the liminal gallery. With 8 artists and Russell. 5 right handed and 3 left. I’m not drawing this time around I’m just watching everyone’s technique. It’s interesting to watch and see how everyone holds there tools and the faces they make while they create. Most are drawing with some form of pencil. While others are using charcoal or water colours. There is one lady that that I can’t tell what she is using from this particular angle. I will have to ask her when we have a break. Frank right pencil Tarryn right water colour Corey left mechanical pencil Luke right charcoal Angelica pencil Netti right charcoal and pastel Evan right naked model Russell sleeping on the couch
Russell has moved to the floor now and Tarryn has swapped to about 5 o clockish. I was discussing with Luke during the last break how each artist is experiencing and recreating the same moment at the same time but each through a different perspective and then you have me watching over everyone have their different perspectives. I see this as a similar way as to how God works.
Luke changed to yellow pastel for the longer drawings. Netti was using charcoal for the shorter drawings and changed to mixed for the longer ones.
Coreys music selection for the night is very fitting. It has a calming yet inquisitive vibe. Two minute warning! Evan the model is an interesting man. He works for the department for education and he informed me it is a weird job. He asked if I have watched utopia and I said I hadn’t and he said it’s like that it’s too real. Evan’s build is I would say average. His upper body has tattoos dotted all over the place. When the break is on he is wearing a blue Doctor Who Robe.
I told Corey about my plans for travelling with a analog camera and sending the photos to the lab for developing. I also told him about my Journal idea and he had the brilliant idea of doing two journals one for when the photo is taken and one for when I come back and look at the photos and try to write out where I was and what was happening and then compare the two journals to see how good my memory is.
We also discussed the type of camera to use as I told him how I am buying old cameras and film and trying to find my vibe. He told me he uses an Olympus pen EE2 for when he was travelling and the latest model is an EE3
I was just writing out what happening during the break and now everyone is back to drawing Russell was modelling for a brief moment and now he is back on the couch.
Let’s now turn our focus back to the Model. Evan has some interesting tattoos. Astro boy on his right hand side next to his belly button, on his heart he has seven what appear to space invaders I could be wrong but from where I am sitting that’s what they look like. I very weird almost neon light looking symbol on his upper right hand. I can’t tell what it is but my brain is saying it’s a rabbit haha. On his lower right arm I can just make out a palm tree and I can’t see the rest of the tattoo and over on the left arm at the top he has Dr. Who’s Tardis flying through space and time of course. I can’t tell what the tattoo is on his lower left arm from here it looks like a fast food or take away meal. That’s all I can see for now. I would like to try and describe his body but I have never done that before. Two minute warning. I just glanced over at Frank’s work I am very impressed I would like to take a photo of his work.
Perhaps it’s best to start at the top when describing someone Evan has… that’s a wrap Corey has rang the bell and Evan has put on his Robe.
