I have to agree. Perhaps politics are poison for religion. I see a lot of problems made by people saying that their faith requires such and such action by and in foreign countries. I always though faith was an internal property of humans, not external.

The problem we have in the US Christian world is that people's politics influence their faith instead of the other way around. Its in both parties. Left and right. We are far to influenced by the world and culture instead of the Word God and his Church.
