China shuts us off and we can't defend ourselves. We also would tumble behind in the AI and Quantum space. It would be a disaster of enormous proportions. 

Ahh ok say the government didn’t step what is the worst possible outcome?

Government-backed MP Materials Surges On Record Rare Earth Production

This is the one instance where I actually agree with government intervention. MP Materials was previously called MollyCorp and was a rising star in the stock market. 

China saw it as a threat and flooded the rare earths and collapsed the entire market. 

Since China controls so much of the trade and they have threatened to cut us off we have to build our own in the US and this gives us a chance.

99% of other things I agree 110% but because of the national security issues with our tech needing rare earths... We gotta protect ourselves and this is the only open functioning mine in the US
