Self-custody is definitely not without risks, but then if something goes wrong, the only person u can be mad at is you:).
There is the issue with death though. What would be a good way to pass your custody onto a non-tech non-btc person?

Additionally, Bitcoin is information. You can have a multi-signature set up (with the people who handle your will if you like) wherein the people who will inherit your Bitcoin will learn your seed phrase and other instructions.
