Curious what Nostr clients y'all are currently using. Ive tested out anigma.io and damus ios app (in alpha). Both have promise but are kind of wild-westy right now.
  • anigma.io
  • coracle.social
  • astral.ninja
  • noscl
Why? Because I can! :-)

coracle.social appears to have shut down

Temporarily, according to its creator and mainteiner, who has found some critical bugs he's working to get fixed. Isn't it great that we can still be using dozens (if not hundreds) of other Nostr clients while one (or more) of the clients (or the relays) aren't up and running for whatever reason? Isn't it the raison d'être of Nostr in the first place to be resilient and censorship resistant? So, there we go... :-)

It’s probably a bad idea to be giving your private key to any and all clients
It’ll be interesting to see if Nostr can make use of some OS-level key management APIs.
reply
You don't have to give your private key to any and all clients. You can give them your public key to most of them, and your private key to one or two. It will use key management in the future, but it isn't probably a priority for the devs right now.

damus web or damus ios

There hasn’t been a new Damus Tesflight build in a long time. Seems like it’s pretty good now but i’m stuck on the one that is horrendously bare bones.

Check out nostr console if you are handsy with keyboard and TUI (terminal user interface).
It has binaries for most desktop platforms. You can run it in docker. or in virutal machines, or build from code using Dart. Check out discussions and wiki sections for more info. I work on it mostly, so let me know any feedback.
reply
I wish I could. It won't run on any of my desktops, laptops, or even servers. Maybe because non of them run systemd?
reply
Honestly, I still don't get it.
I felt like I was LARPing as a character from Neuromancer when I fired up anigma.io and was hit with a holodeck console with a bunch of random encrypted text strings and people saying stuff like "So nym, what imp are you running on?".
Is there a more accessible way to give it a go?
reply
The chatroom concept is really bad so far. It’s not a chatroom, but more like a hashtag. So if you join another app, those chats will end up on your main timeline.
Hoping it gets better

Damus is rough rn from a ux/ui perspective (I realize it’s super early). Will be interesting to see the evolution of nostr clients for sure.

What the Nostr community needs is the courage to be honest about what state a client is in.
Take a note from the Urbit community and tell people NOT to use the app if it’s not ready. You shouldn’t be satisfied until your grandma could comfortably use the app. All of these apps are in a very alpha state.

We use nostr_console just like @jack

Using astral.ninja on both my desktop and calyxOS phone. It's the only one I tried that managed to load events without being stuck in a never-ending loading loop (I already follow a generous number of pubkeys, so that might be why).
