A Nova Scotia man has been slapped with a fine worth more than $28,000 after deliberately violating the province's ban on woods travel, a move he says was necessary to challenge the provincial proclamation in court.
In an effort to prevent wildfires in the midst of a drought, the Nova Scotia government has imposed a ban on anyone entering the woods — including hiking, fishing and camping — until Oct. 15 or until conditions improve. There is also a ban of open fires.

This NS situation feels like covid. Is everyone "safer" if everybody just stays at home and doesn't do anything? Yes, but what kind of society is that?
Clearly we have to accept that our neighbors pose some amount of risk to us. Forest fires can be bad, but curtailing an entire province's ability to move around for several months seems like a bad trade.
I worry that we are becoming accustomed to such trade-offs as these and not recognizing the cost they carry until later: most people now agree that shutting down schools during covid was probably more harmful to our society than it was worth. But it's not like we can go back.
Find your safety some other way.

So he intentionally endangered Nova Scotians and their property to make a point? The fine seems justified, and honestly, he's lucky it wasn't worse if his actions contributed to a fire risk.

How so? Maybe he was an asymptomatic arsonist? Did he forget to wear his mask? Wasn't he vaccinated against fire? Didn't the government vaccinate the trees to make them immune against fire? :D
