“If you project our growth forward, pretty soon billions of people a day will be talking to ChatGPT,” said the CEO of OpenAI during a dinner with journalists in San Francisco. “ChatGPT will be having more conversations, maybe, than all human words put together, at some point. I think it's unreasonable to expect a single model personality or style to work for all of that.”
The remarks followed the chaotic launch of a long-awaited new flagship model, GPT-5, which some users felt had a less friendly and supportive personality. As part of the launch, OpenAI stopped offering users access to the prior model, GPT-4o. It quickly reversed its position after some users rebelled.
Doesn't he know how many people in the world are still unaware of ChatGPT, OpenAI and who the f**k Sam is???
I actually believe him when he says the number of words outputted by LLMs will surpass the number of words outputted by human speech one day

Lol! I can already imagine many R2-D2, C-3PO, BB-8, K-2SO, and IG-11 roaming everywhere.

I'm surprised that it hasn't achieved that yet. Ask a reasoning model to be concise and you get 1000 tokens of thinking slop for a minute and then 1 sentence as response. Something that takes a human a few seconds at most, and no output during the process. Such a great way to brag about stats when the majority is inefficient crap.

Human history or the history of articulation goes at least 10k years and AI is still a toddler, and don't forget currently humans are in billions while AI models, maybe 100.

I think you're missing the scale.
First, models aren't singular or continuous. If OpenAI has half a billion active users it means they need millions of model servers.
Also huggingface says they host over a million open source models, I myself have a bunch of experimental ones on my laptop that I didn't upload to HF, yet they've produced slop.

Wow! You can take me as dumb about not knowing the scale of servers or all of what going behind the AI scene.
However I also think Sam wants the world to remind about the lack of in person communication which has been on the decrease in modern world.

Not taking you as "dumb" at all!
However I also think Sam wants the world to remind about the lack of in person communication which has been on the decrease in modern world.
I think Sam is with every word coming out of his mouth pitching his company (which arguably should be what a good CEO does) but it also means we should probably not take anything he says at face value. everything is a pitch and meant to make you buy his product.
What does this mean exactly for human progress?
reply
Nice catch, it really doesn't make any sense exaggerate AI in such a way that Sam did. He's been acting/talking stupid recently after his feud with Elon over Apple store. I guess Elon has roasted him a bit too much.
