Lovecraftian horror has this trope where someone, often a university professor, discovers hidden knowledge, from a secret book, artifact, or some such. That knowledge opens their mind to new realities, but the new reality is that there are cosmic deities set to return to the earth and commit unspeakable horrors and destruction. The professor usually turns into a cult leader for the cosmic entity.

Hopefully that explains the Lovecraft vibes I got from this piece haha
