Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.

Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!

We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!

Not sure what to do with my life. Read too much philosophy. But you know what? The meaning of life is what you make of it. Every day is a blessing if you choose it to be

Yeah. I've found continuous self improvement makes life feel more fulfilled.

I find myself listening to country music more than any other genre lately.

It's almost always positive/optimistic/fun and, perhaps more importantly, isn't trying to be cool.

I wonder what that means about my current state of mind lol.

If you’re in a place that feels good and right in the present moment, it’s very easy to be lenient with your old self, to forgive your former self. Because, after all, whatever was before, brought you to this place that’s right and just and beautiful.

If you’re not in such a place, if you’re not where you want to be, forgiving yourself (and the world) becomes increasingly difficult the further away you are from your ideal. In that case, it becomes of vital importance to shift your focus from what has been to what could be. From what you lack to what you have in abundance, and to find a way to transmute what you have to that which it could be.

It’s useful to keep in mind that there is never a real lack of anything. All of it exists, somewhere, sometime. You can be the one who makes it manifest.

If anybody can do it, it’s you.

I don't really like receiving automated emails with someone's full name. You are a company, this just feels even more fake.

But I have the same feeling for the mandatory "how are you today" from store employees.

reply

I actually appreciate the "how are you" from store employees. I guess I started thinking that fake politeness is better than no politeness. For one, faking an attempt at niceties can actually sometimes lead to a real, positive interaction. For another, we know that simulated niceties can brighten someone's mood, so even if I'm not feeling genuine about it, wouldn't it still be nice to potentially make someone's day better by being nice?

Yes, I agree, I like and prefer politeness, but it doesn’t feel that good to me when it’s something like

  • β€œHi, how are you? What would you like to order?”
  • β€œA pizza. By the way I’m good! Thanks for asking, what about you?”
  • β€œComing right up, next?”

Like you asked about my day, what about yours???

Maybe also a cultural difference, here if you ask about someone’s day they would reply politely but they’d also probably think that you should mind your own business.

Also worth thinking: "What Got You Here Won't Get You There", which is a book from Marshall Goldsmith that talks about the next step.

Happiness Journal 18/8/25

Gave my Foundation Science class the list of vocab words that they can leverage during exams. I could conclude that many of them bothered to scan through the list because they asked what mammals are.

The lesson somehow shifted to a Q&A session on asthma and whether children would outgrow it. After trying to answer their burning questions as best as I could, I then had to field another series of questions on K pods and their implications. Note to self: I need to find out how drug-laced vaping will damage the respiratory system so that I can draw links to the curriculum and not β€œwaste” instructional time.

From this experience, I learnt that my lower-progress students are not that apathetic towards Science (and by extension, life). They just lack an avenue for their curiosity to be satiated - the things they care about aren’t addressed in the syllabus.

SUPER COOL free solution for any merchant that want to start accepting Bitcoin and do not have the infrastructure ready: LNPOS (you just need a LN address).
Merchants have no reason NOT to accept Bitcoin now.

Quite interesting.

Had a look into the Argentinean company from the video, lacrypta, and they make some cool open source projects, like a discord bot that takes Bitcoin as payments, and here's the project from the video: https://github.com/lawalletio/mobile-pos

They sell "rechargeable cards" with the logo of your company or whatever you want, which is quite cool:

Provide a payment solution with customized rechargeable NFC cards. Take your branding to the next level with our international cards.

I saw that in their web site they claim to have mined block 755100

Mined block #755.100

A quick check reveals it was mined by Foundry USA Pool, which means that they were probably mining in that pool and just happen to have mined the actual block for the pool. I guess they would have preferred to solo mine :)

A LN address and customers with bolt cards...

reply

They say:

Point of Sale (POS)

Receive physical payments and from exchanges quickly.

So I would assume that the customers can also send sats from a node without the card. They have support for Lightning Addresses.

reply

Yes I checked the app and effectively allow payments from any source via lightning, as it provide the QRcode and the invoice string. Was just funny they choose to use the a nfc card and a phone for the video.
