X-ploitation: How X Became a Crossroads for Child Abuse and Influence Operations \ stacker news ~security

During an ongoing investigation into illegal Russian influence operations on X, Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) researchers discovered what seems to be a coordinated inauthentic behaviour (CIB) network distributing “Child Sexual Assault Materials” (CSAM). The network can be observed hijacking hashtags, publishing explicit CSAM videos, and redirecting users to a wide range of other platforms. Due to the operation flooding hashtags, researchers chose to name it “Operation X-ploitation.”

Pay-to-post would be one solution, for sure.

I remember Nostr had a lot of porn bots at its beginning. I don't think I've seen any last time I visited on of the clients. How did it get resolved there? Just relays moderating the kind of content they let through?

I remember the porn phase of nostr really taking off a few months after Jack started boosting nostr. Relays must be filtering it, because I don't imagine all the bots just gave up. I never see that kind of stuff there now.

But this raises the question: if relays (who I assume don't have billion dollar budgets) can filter it, why can't X?

Answering my own question: X probably doesn't want to filter all porn, just some.
