Was supposed to churn out slides for my Professional Learning Team that would teach students how to answer conversational questions like a seasoned pro. But wasn’t too motivated to get that done.
My productive form of procrastination was to embark on something else. Given that I had to give my students their weekly spelling test today, I thought that I would dispel the boredom and induce some magic by…
generating an audio file comprising the spelling words with an AI Text-to-Speech generator.
Which led to me exploring Elevenlabs for the first time. Intentionally chose a lady’s voice so that it would contrast with my manly husky voice.
“I’m excited about my spelling today,” I announced to my students, to their bemusement.
It turned out that they didn’t share the same level of enthusiasm as me. Maybe they weren’t used to listening to white people speak. Maybe the novelty of the entire endeavour threw them off. Either way, I found myself repeating the words profusely.
I guess it’s good that my job security is kinda guaranteed. Humans naturally gravitate towards other human voices. Nonetheless, I’m tickled pink by my humble attempt to turn mundane routines into magical moments.
