Community is everything to us. From the very beginning, we want to build a space that isn’t just another social feed, but a real home where early users can shape what we are building. Some companies use Slack for this... for some reason Slack annoys me.
Today I tested Circle. At first it looked easy to get started, but the sharp edges showed up quickly. Their system blocks emails they decide are “disposable,” and API access is locked behind a $499 per month plan plus it doesn't look as glossy as their cool marketing videos.
We are going to try Discourse instead. It's highly configurable, open-source and it gives us the control we need. Right now we are in the trenches—wiring things up, testing, and breaking things—but it is coming soon.
When Lightswap launches, this will be the place where our earliest supporters can give feedback on new features, share ideas, and help shape what comes next.

Why not try a territory here on Stacker News? (Especially if there were semi private territories?)
Discourse is fine, but you will still end up doing a lot of moderation. Stacker News has less need for moderation because of the sats. Also, users could zap you and each other for helpful responses. Also post+comments format lends itself to discrete user issues.
Biggest obstacle I can see is that users need sats to post. Maybe this can be fixed with some freebie posts in the territory.
Other obstacle is that you probably don't want all your forum discussion happening in the middle of stacker news. But might be solvable if there was a way to make a territory not show up in the main feed.
Anyway, if you are looking to build a community around a bitcoin product, maybe consider doing it here.

I hadn’t thought of this.
I can see some upsides: Next to no setup or maintenance Less moderation needed because of zaps There’s a great bitcoin community here already
Downsides: Requires users to pay to post Requires users to have a lightning wallet (not a major issue but some noobs may not) Eventually we’ll be trying to attract pre-coiners/non-techies and the UI may not be what they’re use to All of our forum posts appearing on the stacker news feed
Thanks @Scoresby we’ll think this through!
