Probably, but could be "spice up" if the plants are sufficiently interesting and the living room is otherwise pretty dull.
I was under the impression that spice up is used to refer to one’s life or routine. Looks like I should replace it with something else (like stack up or whatsoever) to prevent ambiguity!

You're right. "Spice up" is possible, but far more unlikely without specific context.
