The Boston Red Sox officially extended Cuban reliever Aroldis Chapman's contract through 2026 following his excellent season.
The Holguín native will earn $12 million in 2026, plus a $1 million signing bonus, the official MLB website reported.
The deal also includes a mutual acquisition option for 2027, the report added.
Cuban closer Aroldis Chapman, at 37, is having one of the best seasons of his career, leading all major league relievers with a 1.15 ERA and limiting his opponents to a minuscule .130 batting average.
As if that weren't enough, the Holguín native has achieved something unprecedented in his career: nine consecutive starts without allowing a single hit, a streak he didn't even achieve during his most dominant days with the Cincinnati Reds between 2011 and 2014, when he terrorized hitters with fastballs over 100 mph.
