What brought you to SN in the first place?
People linking interesting posts on nostr (maybe X initially). I lurked (on and off) for almost 2 years before creating an acct.
What brings you back to SN?
Stackers, because awesome.
What causes you to make posts on SN?
For ~AI, I try to post about developments that haven't been posted by others yet and I like doing the weekly summaries. For everything else, I try to share not-yet-on-SN great or remarkable content.

What brought you to SN in the first place?

I was just looking for a place to talk about bitcoin. Reddit kept banning me and Twitter felt like I could never join the conversation.

What brings you back to SN?

For a long time it was just the sats. I really really like getting zapped. Also, I was learning a lot about bitcoin with people who wanted to explore it beyond just 21 million + hold your own keys. Still am.

What causes you to make posts on SN?

Now, I think I'm mostly motivated by trying to write something new about bitcoin. I post a lot of stuff I think people will find interesting, but I really put a lot of time into original posts, trying to find some new angle or facts about bitcoin.

Based on all your reading, what do you think bitcoin needs most right now?

I came to not talk about Bitcoin, and I still don’t talk about it!

I got brought to SN after learning Bitcoin and Nostr, and then I became frustrated with the legacy web as it is very corrupted with the fiat mindset. Everything is just so bureaucratic and stiff. Not only how the services work, but the people themselves. I'm isolated among a sea of statists and fools.
I don't visit SN often, however I returned to it today, as my artistic endeavors are not getting paid off in the legacy web. Meanwhile, in SN I have received some sats, so maybe helping other people should be my talent instead of doing art.
Right now I want to find for problems and help people, as I'm contributing to something unlike my isolated work with arts.

  • What brought you to SN in the first place?
An ad on Fountain describing SN as Reddit, but with real money in place of cheap likes. I was in the process of finding alternatives to Big Tech platforms, particularly those that used real transferrable tokens (not a bitcoiner yet) to reward engagement.
  • What brings you back to SN?
I was hooked almost immediately. Being new to bitcoin (and crypto), I mostly read and asked questions. On posts related to politics, economics, or science (which were less common before territories), I'd engage more in the discussions.
The quality of discussion is completely unrivalled and that's what I wanted from social media. I also love getting to talk to the devs about the structure of the site.
Now, of course, I also check in regularly to keep tabs on my territories.
  • What causes you to make posts on SN?
Usually, I just want to share stuff with the other stackers and see what they think about it.
I also make some posts that I think of more as territory maintenance.

Interesting, can we still look up/ listen to the ad? I wonder if they're still advertising

A reddit post brought me here.
Reddit being reddit is what keeps me coming back.
I post here because I actually like you guys.
reply
Aww shucks we like you too
reply
People post interesting stuff about Bitcoin dev and Econ/politics here. Also since it’s not as overloaded as Reddit, it’s easier to take time to engage. I like the sats system as well, it’s fun to see my balance go up, I withdraw periodically and watch sats go up in Phoenix wallet
Someone posted an hour long phish concert the other day and I listened to the entire thing while working. I can’t remember the last time I watched an hour long vid on Reddit or elsewhere
reply
Yep, seeing that balance go up is part of the fun. I guess you could even call SN my first lightning wallet back when they were still custodial

I was searching for how to make some sats over internet and that's how I discovered stacker news.
It's a great place for getting news about Bitcoin ecosystem and technology. As well as many other interesting post are available in stacker news. That brings me back to SN.
Whenever I find something useful, I try to make a post. And it's really a great platform where our post and comments are not censored. All this things make me post on SN.
Lots of love for SN & long live SN!

I told my daughter she should consider posting here. If you make good posts, it isn't a stretch to say you could earn a few thousand sats a week (right now she is responsible for making money to pay her own mobile phone bill)

  • What brought me to SN in the first place
I was fairly active on r/bitcoin and someone posted a link to SN. I checked it out and found the conversations deeper and more interesting than Reddit. For a while, I was active on both, but r/bitcoin started getting authoritarian (they'd censor posts about shitcoins... I don't agree with censorship and I much prefer the no-censorship but get a lashing from Darth method of SN...)
  • What brings me back to SN
It's a variety of things. Obviously, the mix of topics is right up my alley: bitcoin, economics, technology, libertarianism. But the quality of the engagement is also higher than most other places, afaict
  • What causes me to post on SN
I usually post when I think I have something interesting to share. If it's a longer thought piece, I make a post. If it's a short snippet of a thought, I tend to post in Saloon.
Getting zapped for a post is definitely nice, and so is getting engagement. Zaps and engagement are what drives continued participation, imo.

What brought you to SN in the first place?
I was searching about secure bitcoin wallets as I made a resolution that I'll stack bitcoins starting this year, and I found some posts here about the same question. I got to know that this is the place I should join and learn.
What brings you back to SN?
If you still use X, Instagram, TikTok and crap, you'll see it kind of tires a person and exhausts them because of algorithm personalization, and you'll spend hours learning nothing. Here it's different it's not addictive and every hot posts are worth reading.
What causes you to make posts on SN?
I see it as my personal space here where I can post almost about anything and it's here forever, plus it's fun to read others opinions on topics that interest you.
reply
This is definitely one of the best places on the internet to ask about wallets and other bitcoin related stuff.

Couldn't agree more.

What brought me to S.N was the desire to learn and discover Bitcoin in all its aspects and foundations. I was an ordinary citizen of the fiat system and thanks to life and a partner I managed to wake up from the fallacy by finding this wonderful platform.

I wonder how many ppl check SN daily just to see the bitcoin price without actually loading a bitcoin price chart page. See this way they can check the price without checking the price. And of course they'll peruse the main page briefly as well. I imagine that's a lot of ppl who browse without logging in.
reply
Mm, I'd be surprised if people are coming here specifically to check the bitcoin price, wouldn't a quick google search just do that already?

What brought you to SN in the first place?
Thinking about the tragedy of the commons a lot, then finding even the digital commons’ that I liked getting increasingly tragic or authoritarian to manage the tragedies.
I also think follow-based social media flourishes because it solves the tragedy of the commons; we can't share free (not like free beer) and open space on the internet, so we'll have you follow many false idols instead. I think regardless of the algorithm, who is in control, the content or the format, follow-based social media is bad for human wellbeing. It elevates the most narcissistic and attention-seeking members of our species, and forces anyone seeking community online to become more narcissistic and attention-seeking to find community online.
Everyone is concerned with the other cancers of internet: algorithms and censorship. Yet they ignore this far more terminal one because the people who benefit from it the most, the people we follow the most, the internet's false idols, will never help us question it. Follow-based social media is like the fiat money of social media - the cause of most of the social media's problems, yet we're distracted by symptoms.
What brings you back to SN?
I think something like SN, the way it solves problems, is the future of the internet.
reply
I think you're on to something with "follow based social media". I wonder how we transition away from the current dopamine-fueled, outrage and personality driven social media landscape though. Seems like people are just drawn to that drama (and endless doomscrolling)

They are drawn to it, I agree. Other than private chats and niche forums that collapse at scale, there's just nowhere to seek refuge from it right now.

What brought you to SN in the first place?
  • Having retired I was just trying to search a platform where I could learn and probably earn, tbh it wasn't about sats. Although I knew Bitcoin since 2016, I never got so much interested as after finding SN. You can say I didn't know the real worth of Bitcoin till I found SN.
What brings you back to SN?
  • It's easy. I like the value and casual discussions both. It could be that I got so much spare time that I persuaded SN with devotion. Now I feel like it's worth all the time.
What causes you to make posts on SN?
  • It's again my spare time which lets me read what's going on around. When I see something that's worth mentioning, I share it here. Other than these link type posts, I occassionally share my opinion about India or South East Asia which is a minority on SN. And because I had been a sports person, I love to post in ~Stacker_Sports, mostly about Cricket though.

What brought you to SN in the first place?

I can’t remember I been using SN for so long. I am sure it has to do with my obsession with Bitcoin and lightning.

What brings you back to SN?

It’s my go to placate my social media addiction. Plus I’m trying to push the circular economy every sat I zap moves us closer to people earning bitcoin and not buying it.

What causes you to post on SN?

To get the perspective of Bitcoiners. Also I want to improve my writing skills. So I force myself to post and share content. Lastly, since it’s pay to post I don’t feel guilty about posting about anything I wish.
