I don't think we gain anything from this. We already control all three branches of government, so any temporary boost in public opinion doesn't translate to an increase in political power. All we have is a dead friend. It's a reminder to set up an inheritance plan because this is the risk we take for saying anything out loud even if it's the majority opinion.
Until we know more about the shooter, this is a bit premature, but I would hope more and more rational people, even on the center left, realize that messages like
If you don't acknowledge my pronouns you are denying my existence
If you disagree with this/that policy, you are spreading hate
If the oppressed act out in violence, it is the oppression that's to blame
etc/etc
do not lead anywhere good and simply lead to the rationalization of violence. The sooner we can reject the language of oppressed/oppressor and harm/safety, especially when it comes to speech, the better.
I do want to flag we do not know for sure that's the shooter. There were two people arrested this one is the one people have been saying but police haven't confirmed. I only mention this because if that isn't we are ruining an innocent life
