I knew averages had dipped a lot, but I don't think I'd realized just how bad things had gotten. I just figured it was a Mets thing. :-) But yeah, it's gotten pretty bad everywhere. Feels like Rob Deer would love this era.

Pitchers are better than ever. Analytics knows every guys weakness. So many specialist relievers used that have at least one elite pitch.
It’s hard to sustain a .300 avg through a full season now.

High. But the tradeoff is they have a short window to play in the major leagues and make a lot of money.

what is the value of a 120 yo pitcher who constantly remains above average in his age-gender-adjusted group? one shud ask himself how much to lower his time preference
