I've been telling my friends who use Ring or Nest doorbells for years that they need to stop it, and that was just when the concern was storing people's movements on Amazon/Google's servers. This makes things even worse.

Why do people just go along with this like it's a not a big deal?

reply

It's the same mentality behind using phones with tons of privacy issues or giving away all their personal information on every website. But these go over the line in that taking my picture and location without my agreeing to it.

Ring’s CEO talked about this a few days ago as they are now going after package thieves with it the Ring footage and it’s been shown to lead to convictions and a decrease in thefts

reply

Sure, and capturing those package thieves is definitely worth losing even more privacy.
