A while back I wrote this post: Is there a novel in which capital controls play a large part in the story line?
At that point, I hadn't yet read the book A Far Country, also by Nevil Shute. I recommend that one highly as well.
Nevil Shute was an extremely popular author in England, in the 1930's to 1950's. In post WWII England he became increasingly disenchanted with the socialist government, and the very high taxes that he had to pay, and moved to Australia. After that, most of his books take place in Australia.
The book The Far Country is another of his works in which capital controls play a large part in the plot. I won't give anything away, but...people will try to figure out a way to escape the tax man. And aside from that, it's a great read.
The book is available on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Far-Country-Nevil-Shute-ebook/dp/B07N365XR8) and also on Annas-archive.org (https://annas-archive.org/md5/109c791833ad04861580c76e0aeffae7).
