Agreed, That's why I'm glad that there's a distinction being made. In the past people have been calling this vb4v trend v4v. I'm all for people innovating and making cool things, I'm also for defining things properly
this territory is moderated
I'm an advocate for getting rid of V4V, vb4v, etc. This is jargon to me, and I don't think it's going to help us grow this community. I'm an advocate for communicating it all in plain language. I think once it grows to a certain extent, the fans will create something like a hashtag or phrase for it. I hope to see that. I really want to leave it up to the musicians and fans. Or maybe something else comes along to push the idea, like films. who knows? I love what Avi Burra is doing with IndeeHub, for example. Music is just so universal, it seems like it's the most likely place for this idea to take off.
I don't think there is one "proper" way to do this. I think when we focus on that, we are focused on the wrong thing, indoctrination, which isn't fun or attractive to new folks who want to come into the space.
I think we need to be more open and welcoming, which is not something we've done a good job at. Part of that is going to be making it easier to understand so people will adopt it. Part of it is just being nice to newcomers, rather than browbeating them that there is only "one" "proper" way things should be done. I certainly don't want to squelch new energy or ideas coming in.
