Bosa was a big loss but Warner is a bigger loss.
Take PFF grades with a grain of salt but no surprise the two lowest graded players are linebackers after Fred Warner goes out in the 2nd quarter and the next lowest graded players are a safety returning from IR and two cornerbacks that got toasted because they missed assignments leading to easy TDs for the Bucs.
I expect it will be better next week as you don't have to play a potential MVP QB and you have a week to clean up the defensive calls with Bethune filling in for Warner but Warner is the QB of the defense. For the 49ers defense this is akin to the Bengals losing Burrow.
49ers can still be a good team. Their offense can carry them (assuming they get and stay reasonably healthy- maybe an unrealistic assumption). The defense can do enough or make a big play when needed but I don't think they can be a great team without Warner. Was already going to be hard enough without Bosa, but they could have at least made a trade to improve at Edge (wouldn't be a Bosa level player but you can get better). However, you aren't going to replace Fred in house or on the trade market. They are pretty deep at LB but I would be surprised if any of them play up. I think we can safely assume Winters looking great to start the year had a lot to do with playing beside Fred because as soon as Fred was gone he was the second worst graded player.
Should the 49ers punt on the season? Nah, they are 4-2, hold all the tiebreakers in the division and even though some teams on their schedule are playing better than expected, still have a fairly easy remaining schedule. Should they go all in at the trade deadline and try to replace Bosa and Warner? Nah, add low cost veteran pieces that don't impact the future cap or draft capital, play your asses off every week and let the chips fall as they may.
Sats for all,
