Trying to get into Bitcoin mining just for learning, and hoping for a tiny positive return. I identified the BitAxe miner and Datum pool as potential candidates, but have a few small questions around its functionality. Anyone who has an idea about the following features?
  • Can the BitAxe work with the Datum pool to send me my rewards via Lightning in Coinos? Or do I have to run my own self-custodial lightning node?
  • Can the BitAxe work on and off as in, I drive to work, put it in plug in my company outlet, then come back home, and plug it in again etc.? Will my reward be (roughly) proportional to the hashes I contribute throughout the day? If my home and work both have WiFi, will the configurations (where to credit my reward, the pool URL etc.) be persisted across sessions?
  • Is it really portable, as in meant to commute around with, so that I can plug it in wherever I see a charging point?
  • My power outlet is 220 volts, 50 Hz. Single phase, type G plug (engineering details, not sure if they matter), but are BitAxes compatible with it?

Yes.

Yes, within a limit of 8 blocks worth of work for the total pool, so the window may be smaller or larger than a day depending on how many other people submit to the pool. Also note that it is PPLNS so you get paid when a block gets found, not per day.

Yes, but you may need to re-configure your wifi - I don't remember if BitAxe allows configuration of multiple, auto-connect wifi networks; to my memory it allowed one, but I may be wrong or outdated.

It's not designed to be portable but that doesn't mean it isn't. You could hang it on a battery pack and use your phone to tether wifi and make it extremely portable.

Yes.

AxeOS network configuration only allows one Wi-Fi connection at a time, so you would need to change it and restart the device every time.

Right so that didn't change, then, thank you. Could be coded in though.

This seems tricky. Is there documentation for this cycle change? Unless there is a switch, isn't there a possibility that it will run slower and overheat?

What of the above is tricky?
If you mean the power, you anyway need an adapter to 5V DC (5A/25W), and these are relatively standard.

What I am saying is buy for the region you live in. I like https://www.solosatoshi.com/.

You need a DC adapter that is compatible with the region you live in, yes. The board itself is the same. I gave 2 boards that I bought in Europe away to friends in the US, there are no problems; they just needed to get the correct adapter.

You don’t want to switch networks. It’s a pain in the aaass. You have to reflash the OS each time (at least I did). Other than that, yes to all your other questions. The miner is simple and easy to use. And it is half what you need in order to say you support the network. I recommend connecting to Ocean mining pool.

All good but not sure Ocean can work with Coinos? When I looked at it maybe a year or so ago it was difficult of not impossible to use coinos wallet for Ocean pool LN payments.
