I found this interesting nostr post by The Rage contrasting the difference in donating within the Bitcoin and other crypto communities.
Are the majority of bitcoiners are too attached to their bags as in they don't spend? Or ETH and Monero communities got their stash easily so they can give more generously? Or that the Samurai guys were kinda dicks to everyone so they don't deserve support?
...
We just got a pretty major grant from a thing called Octant and the Ethereum Foundation to produce a documentary about the DOJ‘s case against Roman Storm.
Probably gonna get lynched for this, but I think we need to talk.
While we are grateful for every donation, over the past ~1.5 years we received noticably less donations in Bitcoin than we received in ETH, Zcash and Monero over the course of just a few months - while our main audience are bitcoiners.
The only way I can explain this to myself is that there seems to be an issue with the general mentality of trying to keep your bitcoin to yourself, which results in a significant lack of support for others - and it makes me really sad.
The way the Ethereum community is supporting the tornado cash developers is nothing short of extraordinary. Compare that to our support of Samourai, who collected a mere few 100k, while Roman Storm raised millions to fund his case.
At the same time we end up wondering why most people in bitcoin are retarded orange tie maxis that treat BTC like just another stonk, and why its use as a tool for the people falls more and more behind in the global narrative.
Its time we start taking better care of each other in this space, and I hope that next time one of us is criminally indicted, we support them with all that we have.

They are leaving Sats on the table by not posting on SN. 🤷‍♂️ @OT gets it.

I don't think this is a fair comparison. It's apples and oranges.
Ethereum not only had a premine, but much of that premine went to the foundation dedicated to guiding its further development. Bitcoin was significantly more decentralized from the start, and there isn't a "Bitcoin Foundation" with a huge premine to do stuff like that with. Even the largest bitcoin treasuries, like Strategy, had to buy their bitcoin and the only way they can continue to fund their operations is with their financial engineering---so they may not have the luxury to simply donate their bitcoin to different causes.

That might be an interesting one to look into. Did the donations come from the ETH foundation or from individual users?

That woman can't stop shooting herself in the foot.
Of course Ethereum people are giving it away, ETH is a shitcoin with infinite emission ahead. The Ethereum Foundation spends millions on marketing because they don't want people to know this.
Bitcoin is valuable and scarce.
Trying to extort Bitcoiners into funding her tabloid and hit pieces is not going to work well for her.
This will backfire tremendously.

I used to donate my hard earned sats to the rage. Then, they not only published Luke's DMs but also misinterpreted it.
Gell-Mann Amnesia protection says: what else did they narrate wrong and then doubled down?
Let the shitcoiners fund it from here on out.

Exactly.

I think overall bitcoin donations are lacking.

Agree. It's something that needs to be given more weight. We tend to lean too far into the hodl side.

And this why I zap everything in sight

I'm glad Kruw is doing what he does. I think he should have been much more anon than he is.
I'll admit that he might not have had the largest liquidity pool if it were a new anon that no one trusted. That trust can be gained over time though
