Hello fellow stackers and travel lovers.
I recently found myself on a short trip back to my homeland. (One week)
And of the many unforeseen events that usually occur when traveling by road, this time I had this one.
Road closed due to landslide caused by rain.
While crossing Colombia, I encountered a road closure. We stopped at exactly 5:30 AM because traffic was completely blocked. And the blockage lasted until approximately 10:00 AM.
As we can see in the images, the rocks were even larger than an average person, relative to their height, and in width, some were the dimensions of a small car.
Aside from the 4 hours I lost in the blockage, I was very surprised to see how the problem was solved.
While I was stuck in the traffic jam, I got out of the vehicle and started talking to other people in the same situation. Those locals (Colombians) told me that I just had to wait for the government to send an excavator to move the debris. Then something incredible happened, and something that was the reason I was able to get out of there faster. I was able to move forward thanks to a group of workers and truck drivers who got out of their respective vehicles and began moving the rocks with shovels and pipes for leverage, a situation that couldn't have been easy. After approximately four hours, we were able to continue the journey, thanks to these hard workers.

Has this or something similar happened to you on a road trip?

Has a landslide blocked your road?

Thanks for reading.

Yes. Some years ago, I saved a motorist life from a landslide. I was driving a mountain road with very steep walls around and some motorists were behind me. I saw them in the mirror and I saw they hesitate to pass over me because of the many curves ahead.
But I had better visibility then them and I make them a sign to go ahead and pass me. In the moment the last motorist (they were like 4) passed me, I heard a loud crack and boom behind me.
Looking in the mirror I saw a giant boulder just falling down from the mountain, right behind my car, at no more than 3-4m. Some small rocks hit my car too but not too much damage.
If I weren't let those motorists to pass me over, they were dead now. Landslides are really dangerous.

how ironic - they were trying to be safe, not knowing that being safe is lethal; u thot u were saving them a few minutes, whereas u saved them lifetimes; crazy story

I completely agree. There are those who think that a simple action is useless, but these experiences confirm otherwise.

A pretty powerful anecdote, if you were to act like the typical annoying driver who doesn't let anyone pass him, a fatal accident would possibly occur.

ungovernable good men! this is inspirational; in my daily life i pick up trash in places where i like to hang out; one time i even collected a used diaper... making this planet livable and tolerable for all is noble work;

Wow, looked like it would have been hard work. I don't think it would be possible in Australia. If people were under the rubble for sure they would help, but if it were just covering the road they probably wouldn't due to legalities.

Fortunately, there were no injuries or material damage (some cars were hit by rocks). What I take away most from this experience are those independent men who take action and don't just sit back and wait for the authorities to resolve the situation.

True, about 4 hours, maybe a little more. It was the delay in the journey.
