No, you don't need to store and broadcast hidden magnet links to child porn or other spam (spam + csam = "cspam") if you run a full node.
You don't need to store anything. Just validate and discard.
Utreexo works and can be made compatible with knots.
Rumor is, luke and his team have been working on integrating utreexo and will do a surprise reveal soon.
This may actually have been the plan all along, to force bitcoin core to rebase on knots after enough attention has been captured on the issue. Crazy ass luke knew what he was doing all along...

I run several core nodes (that I actually use they aren't just for numbers) and I have never, under any circumstances thought about pornography, images, arbitrary data or anything like that.
Just look at the UI for Bitcoin core... it looks like excel for the year 2000 it has no way to view any images, any anything. It's literally command line and a few spreadsheets. There's no way to 'view' any arbitrary data that doesn't come to mind

I completely agree with you, but that is the Knots narrative.
This group has to have something up their sleeve, that's all I'm saying.
Luke-Jr is a great developer and knows the bitcoin codebase better than most of the current group. Why would he go all in on something that almost no one would run?
He's up to something.

Maybe my trolling is working
It's really the only solution for the concern trolls, whole argument is disingenuous without it (covenants support being another such indicator).
Fact isthar if edge nodes shift predominantly to using utreexo it completely rug pulls the chain as storage abusers since it deprives them a free CDN.
reply
Completely agree about rug pulling the storage abusers by taking away the free CDN.
But as to your assessment of the motives, you haven't looked hard enough.
They're not talking about utreexo because, as usual with Luke, there is more to the strategy than riling people up. Look at some of his early work. He's a mastermind.
I think matthew kratter (@bitcoinuniversity youtube) is in on it too.

Would love to see some 4D chess to own the NGO's running Core🍿
It's obviously been a psyop, I'll entertain hope that it's a whitehat one.
reply
sometimes it's a bit of both.
All I'm saying is luke has pissed me off so many times I can't even count them.
But every time his social bullshit seemed like it was on track to boil the bunny, he pulled a live rabbit out of the hat at the end and blew my god damn mind.
reply
The new bip makes all the more sense if this is true, shifts the Overton window that there's a legal/moral obligation to use utreexo.
reply
That's also true
reply
i was wondering... how about the moral obligation to correct the horrors perpetrated on people and their kids? where are the bounty hunter detectives working for bitcoin and the bitcoin whales putting sats to good use?
one group of developers proposes the solution of not looking at the horror at all, keeping it out of sight, thinking that maybe someone will solve it one day...

the world is a grim place.
we try to protect and preserve the nice parts, and not get caught up in black pill and despair

"the path to light is thru the darkness;" once strong men start looking at the darkest actions of other men, develop the will & courage to act, and do something about it - then the world will stop being so grim;
for example, criminals are packed away into prisons, because people in the community where the criminals come from don't want to deal with the conditions that created the criminal; putting criminals out of sight is a patch-up job that keeps the conditions going;
in fact, criminals become better at hiding and at doing their crimes, as they get the PhD in crime in prisons; the most ambitious ones rise to the level of government officials!
some traits to recognize in ourselves:
  • ignorance ("don't wanna know")
  • apathy ("don't care")
  • cowardice ("scared to do something about it")
