Yeah, but does the means justify the end? The Narco state is just as terrible as the extremist Islamic actors, but we aren’t at war with a nation-state; thus, doing military bombing missions to stop the flow of drugs seems like an extreme response. Even the nazi criminals had their day in court during the Nuremberg trials. None of the modern-day evil even touches what the Nazis did. People should have their day in court! If not, then we gotta throw out the “allegedly” because it creates a slippery slope.
I mean I will be the first to say the cost alone is wildly expensive. However, it wasn't a matter of if someone from the military was going to get killed in an interception it was a matter of when (since Coast Guard is part of the military). I would even say if we really wanted to hit the critical part of the narco state we would bomb the massive super labs they have in Columbia and in a smaller scale Venezuela.
I dont think the Trump Admin though really wants to bomb said countries and instead is hitting all around them in hopes of them getting it together (well probably not Venezuela they are kind of a lost cause). However, if the issues are not addressed by these countries and they continue to let drugs flow freely I wouldn't be surprised with either strikes or honest to God special forces raids that blow up the production sites.
When you look at the Constitution for guidance of this it isnt exactly clear beyond if the criminals committed crimes outside of the US Congress can decide where they face trial. With Nuremberg these trials set the ground work for the criminal international law and the ICC. Under criminal international law for the most part the crimes are war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity, and crimes of aggression (invading neighbors, occupation, annexation, etc.) and narco traffickers do not fall under this.
I think if you saw Columbia charge and actually do something with the guy that was saved from the blown up narco sub that would be a huge win for the US and would likely lead to a decrease in strikes blowing up the whole thing. However, Columbia's Presidents reaction I think has only created an environment where the US is going have the idea of they have to go after this alone.
In regards to the use of allegedly....
I think that is just the media term to placate the public. People should definitely look into this more and be much more educated but that isnt the case so terms like that are used to inform the public but without confusing them.

Solid level headed answer! Were you. Poly sci major in college? Haha

Lol NOPE! I got my degree in Psychology lol! I got a BS not a BA.... Bachelors of Arts is stupid....
Always have been interested in politics though going back to being a kid... Did not expect to end up in it at all and that sure was not the plan but here we are.
I just try to take a step back and look at the whole!

Hahahah ahh

Lol when people hear I got my degree in psych they immediately think it was a BA and not a BS.... I initially wanted to go and get my PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience before I had a job offer from my childhood baseball team and then COVID happened.... now I cannot imagine going back to school lol

mm... we had this debate in our department. A lot of our students think BS is more prestigious than a BA.... but most of the top econ schools offer BAs, like Harvard and U Chicago!
Sorry, but I actually think people who think BA/BS makes any difference are just unaware hahaha. What matters much more is your major and institution, not what type of degree.

ah, I can see if it's two degree programs within the same department, then they'd definitely make the BS more scientific.
I'm more referring to in our college, where we offer a BA in Economics, and the marketing department offers a BSBA (Bachelors of Science in Business Administration) in Marketing, and our students think the BSBA is more prestigious (it's not.)
