What is wild west mode?

Wild west mode is turned off by default. When you turn it on, you see outlawed content and you see it as if it wasn't downranked.
If you don't like a post, you can downzap it. This is like zapping, but it has a negative effect on visibility instead of positive. Folks might zap posts that feel like slop or they might downzap an item because they are pissed at the author or because they think a post or comment is mean or because it's a distraction from a conversation or simply because they feel like it. All stackers can downzap. Just click on the three little buttons next to any post or comment and select downzap.

How to downzap

Downzaps are a pretty cool feature on SN. First, like everything else here, they make you put your money where your mouth is. Second, they make moderation "available to everyone and usable by anyone (#619793), rather than relying on some official moderator.
If a post or comment is downzapped enough it becomes outlawed -- which means you won't see it and neither will other stackers...unless they are running in wild west mode.

How to turn on Wild West mode

Go click on your Profile (upper right on desktop, bottom right in the PWA) and select Settings.
Scroll down until you see the Content section and make sure the box next to Wild West mode is checked.

If I was running this site, it'd be called the "Not A Pussy" mode; clashes with the thematics, yes, but more accurately describes what it entails.

100% downzaps sats go to reward pool, is that correct? Or do the OP or territory get a cut?
reply
that's a good question. I always get it fuzzy in my head. I thought it was 100% to reward pool.

After the refactor deploys, perhaps while I remove trust from ranking, I'll be able to make fine adjustments to things like this. I agree that downzaps should go to the rewards pool.
reply
I think the downzap information should be visible the same way it is currently visible for zaps, at least for logged-in users. anon should see no info, the post rank speaks by itself.

Yes and it's not that wild.
Seems like pay to post is a good enough filter.

Will be even much more fun if SN implement optional "pay to comment" set by OP, with the fee they want. Also OP to have the option to allow or not comments to a post.

Now we are talking!

I was for a long time, but there were never any interesting outlawed posts. Eventually, I turned it off for the sake of a higher signal feed.

Yup. I like being able to decide which posts aren't for me on my own. I do downzap posts (maybe one a week), but it's a high threshold for me to do.
reply
Yes and few posts are ever outlawed

I had to check. Yes I am.

Totally! Since I jumped on the S.N., those Outlaws are actually kinda funny sometimes. 😂

Yes, I am using Wild West Mode but I don't tend to downzap.

No
I am trying my best to read the solid postings as it is. Don’t want to be distracted

I was using it off but sometime ago I turned it on. I remember I saw some post was outlawed on personal taste. And TBH, if you look deeply, you'll find there have been many which didn't deserve a downzap and outlawing.
