I've played around in the past with hosted channels, I test them as a regular user and also as a HC "provider". Yes, I know, are only available for CLN and Immortan, but worked just fine. It could help a lot a total noob with zero sats to start using a LN wallet. I know LND have no intentions to implement hosted channels, but I think is a shame. Right now only Valet wallet is still supporting them, but they convert them into a crap fiat channels that I do not like it at all.
So I am asking more LN devs here: why this idea didn't have more traction / adoption to implement it ? Is it because of some technical issues? Do they have some flaws?
For those who don't know what are hosted channels, here are some links to study:
I don't recall there being any benefit to them relative to zero-conf channels which are now fairly common in LSP flows, and zero-conf channels can be upgraded by broadcasting later unlike hosted channels
