I've seen people on nostr that read only what they get into their selected feed based on own "follow list". But the interesting way is to browse nostr notes in a "relay mode", where you read all notes posted in a specific relay (billboard), from all users subscribed to that relay.
Sometimes you can select multiple relays to read. You can find interesting notes that way. ofc sometimes there is spam, but I see that most of the serious relays are filtering already some bullshit content.
I would like to see more nostr clients offering this option in user settings, to choose what type of display they want to see and switch easily from one to another.
As old twatter "follow list"66.7%
As new way "relays mode"3.7%

I like trending 24 hours on primal, which is global and doesn't have much crap, but there aren't as many posts represented as I like. I sometimes make a new npub just to see fresh stuff.

Trending is total mind manipulation. I hate that many nostr clients are pushing me to see first that crap. I want to be able to create my own "trending" feed based on my own criteria, not what some crap algo think is "trending".

Can you explain exactly how you see a particular relay feed? Do you use any particular client?
reply
Fevela.me and Jumble.social can display that. You can make your own relays selection, groups, or individual. You can also switch to "follow list" any time.
What I like is also the option to post a note only on specific relays. But almost all nostr clients that I've tested until now are quite slow and buggy, so don't expect a "wonderful" experience. They still have work to do.
Primal is kind of crap, copying the old twatter in all aspects and pushing the "trending crap", they even removed the option to save videos (right click save) or copy the link video. Lame. Trending and follow list are creating so called "echo rooms"... I am talking ONLY about desktop clients. I am not interested at all in mobile clients. I do not use nostr on mobile.

Nostr Newbie here with a question. I currently use the "follow list" setting but I find my self not using Nostr as much as I want to because I seem to see more "good morning" type post which I can do care about.
Am I correct in thinking that if an user want to filter out low quality notes/post on Nostr like SN does with "filter by sats" setting.
Could one could connect to a Relay that has a fee to post and use the "Relays Mode" option to get a paid to post Stacker News like feature on Nostr?
Anyone know of a pay to relay Nostr Node?
reply
There are many "private relays". You can run one for yourself and family / friends or a company one, even you could have by department.
Each relay you can configure to accept / post notes about a specific subject, like SN territories.
The "pay to post" or "pay to read" is optional, because in a nostr relay you can have whitelists and blacklists. That means only pre-authorized npubs can read and write on those relays.

The good morning crap really drives me nuts, but for some reason I don't see as much of it as I used to.

Just publishing and notifications, the feeds are garbage
It's better for connecting apps to wallets ;)

Latest version of amethyst is crashing my 4GB ram phone, so I stopped using it on mobile. The mobile clients suck imo. Amethyst from around 2years ago was the best.

I still don't use Nostr; I think it uses too much bandwidth. If I did, I would use it for news, but SN is way better, more network efficient for that use case.

i've been experimenting with using https://jumble.imwald.eu/ with my wot relay (wot.nostr.net) as primary way i interface with nostr on desktop

I usually use more my language relay and engage in there topics. Often I post things in write relays that I favorite and less often a use relays to keep useful information for me, as a pastebin or something. I saw groups there in Nostr but the client I used can read it properly and I didn’t find a relay that I need to keep as main. My language relay only bs topics.

I should also adopt nostr, right? I have seen the website but haven't joined yet (as far as I remember).

i just log on for maybe 10 mins a day to see what is going down, much like twatter (which i dont actually use)

I haven't fully committed to Nostr yet; I still have a long way to go.
Any advice, my dear master @DarthCoin, for your apprentice padawan?

What relays do you recommend?
reply
none. find you own. relays are like SN territories

I see no reason to use Nostr, the same way as the old (Twatter). Because these 2 are too much different. Twitter/X (Twatter) is dying
