If you link the account to a non-KYC sim card, always use VPN and don't post any identifying info it should be pseudonymous enough. For really private comms start secret chat or switch to SimpleX.
A while back I tried starting an account with a non KYC phone number. Couldn't get it to work after trying for quite some time, Telegram always rejected it.

Interesting. Maybe you used one of those free sms web sites? I bought a physical sim card in a third world country years ago, lost the number already, but Telegram still works with it.

Yes, that's what I did, but they weren't even free. I used lightning to pay for them. It was a while back and can't remember the details of which service I used, but I tried pretty hard, and was never successful - telegram always rejected the numbers.

Yeah, I tried those too for AWS, also did not work. Must be all blacklisted.
