I still can’t believe apple wields this kind of power.

really? it's been their whole business model since they dropped the m68k. block 3rd parties as much as possible.

It is crazy. Android is far from perfect, but the walls aren't as high, ie Fdroid

Disappointing, though it won't affect me. I can't use Damus anyway, since I'm not an Apple user.

Not really suprising. Apple's app store rules are quite strict. But at the end of the day, it is their store, so they can have whatever rules they want. And there will also be an issue in the future with bad content being published to nostr, so even if it gets accepted, it might get delisted again.

By the same token, Google Chrome should also be delisted from their store?

You're probably right and I'd love to hear your reasoning.

Well, it is just a hunch from previously dealing with the app store. I just think that Apple wants to protect it's users and if you introduce an app which is a window to basically any content which is not being monitored by any entity, then they probably will not like it. (assuming I am correctly understanding Nostr, if not, feel free to correct).

The same applies to Chrome, a window to any unmonitored content. Don't you think so?
That was my initial point.

If this keeps happening with other clients in the future because of the protocol itself, this is actually some kind of death sentence for nostr. In order to change the way we do social media, this stuff has to go mainstream. For this, we need apple, unfortunately.

I don’t think it’s that bad. We can always build PWAs, which lag behind native apps in terms of features/performance, but are way more censorship resistant.

That's very true. Technically, everything will work. But your average Joe wants to use an app. They want to use "THE APP", whatever it will be. We need the average Joe.

The app (store) is useful because it's an effective means to reach people outside your tribe...

It's nothing against nostr, Apple just has a minimum feature set for social media apps, the only one he is missing now is account deletion. Apple probably isn't aware of nostr at all

you don't need apple, no one needs apple. they are absolutely horrible for everything crypto related, particularly p2p payments. that aside nih syndrome is their entire business model. making an app for an open protocol on apple is asinine.

It's a messaging app. Why are they asking about if it's a "Wallet" and asking about crypto? I think it's the dev's fault for even putting that in the description.
